    Abstract

The influence of the ignition power and the size of the ignition source on the fire growth in full scale room fire tests is studied. The fire test room and its instrumentation are described. In the experiments the following variables were measured: gas temperature, total heat flux to the floor, smoke production, and rate of heat release. The results of a test series with three ignition powers and three burner sizes in a fire test room lined with Shipboard are given. The results indicate that a feasible ignition power is of the order of 160 kW, with a burner top surface of 170 mm x 170 mm to 305 mm x 305 mm.
