Abstract

The Baltic Sea has been one of the application areas where ERS-1 SAR images have been used for real-time ice monitoring purposes. An image work station developed for the icebreaker crew has been extended to also allow the use of SAR images. Images are geometrically rectified and radiometrically modified before transmission to the icebreakers. Telefax images are made for users without an image work station.
