Abstract
The luminance, contrast ratio, CIE color coordinates, viewing‐angle range, and luminous efficacy of an ACTFEL display are all affected by the multilayer structure of the device. A model incorporating absorption and reflection in the metal electrode, interference in the thin‐film stack, and transmission in the thick layers is developed and used to predict the visual performance. Especially important are the effects of various metallization schemes and color and gray‐shade filters. Also, the effect of viewing angle on the contrast and perceived color is discussed.
