    Abstract

The study focuses on the optimization of steel portal frames, and on the proper use of different analytical methods including stability calculations. Our goal is to develop an effective tool which can produce optimal frame geometry and help designers to keep up with growing demands on price. Frames are analyzed in Abaqus/Standard or MS Excel and a realcoded genetic algorithm is used for finding optimal configurations satisfying Eurocode requirements.
