    Abstract

In this paper, a structure of a packet error resilient Fine Granularity Scalable MPEG-4 decoder is proposed. The performance of the proposed decoder is tested and tests are repeated with the prioritization of the most important parts of the bitstream enabled to analyze the impact of the packet error resilience and the prioritization during the video transmission. Simulation results show that improvement in the visual quality can be achieved when using the proposed decoder and the prioritization. However, the effect achieved by using the proposed error resilient decoder is greater than the improvement achieved by using only prioritization.
