Abstract
The effect of the drying method and the drying conditions on paper curl were studied. Theoretical considerations concerning the development of moisture gradient in the paper thickness direction and its influence on curl were also discussed. Curl can be controlled by either controlling the drying conditions in one-sided drying or by combining different drying techniques. If conditions inside the paper are symmetrical during the drying process, the paper remains planar. The drying process has been simulated and examples are included in this paper.
