    Abstract

A new PbS array based spectrometer has been developed for in-line quality monitoring and automation of the TMP process. The instrument is capable of measuring reflectance spectra at 24 wavelengths in the range from 1200 to 2200 nm with a resolution of 50 nm. The spectra are recorded in a parallel and simultaneous operation, which is optimal for monitoring moving and non-homogeneous sample streams. The instrument has been optimised for in-line monitoring of pulp flakes flying in a blow pipe coming from a TMP refiner in a paper mill. analyzer With modifications to the in-line probe the analyser could be applied to many other applications, outside the TMP process.
