    Abstract

Selected EN standards were used to study performance properties of twelve elastic sealants in concrete facade joints. The properties measured were tensile stress strain properties, tensile properties at maintained extension, elastic recovery and resistance to flow. The properties were measured after conditioning in standard climate, after cyclic heat water treatment and after 3000 h of UV radiation exposure with an Xenon arch. The tensile properties and resistance to flow were measured in the temperatures representing relevant sealing temperatures and relevant temperatures of the concrete elements and sealants in practice. By taking into account element movements, planned joint widths and the time of elements and sealants installation, the future elongation or compression cycle of the sealant can be predicted. By taking into account both the measured tensile properties of the sealants before and after exposure as well as the working properties, the most suitable products for each element facade can be chosen. On the basis of the test results selection guidelines for sealants has been proposed. The selection guidelines provide a common basis for the selection of sealants for concrete facade joints.
