    Abstract

The objective was to produce a mosaic of several polarimetric ALOS/Palsar scenes in such a form that polarimetric processing methods - like polarization synthesis and various decomposition techniques - can be applied to the mosaic product. A small mosaic was produced of four partly overlapping polarimetric Palsar scenes in Finnish Lapland. In mosaic compilation, the image geometry was revised using 77 tie points (produced by automatic image correlation) and 13 manually measured ground control points (GCP). The residual mean square error for GCPs was 13.6 m in northing and 19.8 m in easting. Radiometric normalization of topographic effects was done using a digital elevation model.
