This book investigates positive energy buildings (PEBs). It provides and describes them, explains why they are important in the fight against climate change and discusses how they might be implemented. The book presents some of the main findings from the early stages of the EXCESS project and key learnings from understanding the role of PEBs in mitigating climate change. The book is composed of five chapters which cover the following topics: the importance and future of PEBs from a challenge and opportunity perspective; providing a definition of PEBs from both technical and social perspectives; discussion on key regulatory, social, financial and technology-related aspects impacting the implementation of PEBs; suggestions for local municipal authorities on support implementing PEBs; demonstration of PEB implementation plans in different climatic zones to support energy transition and help mitigate climate change.
