Abstract
A mathematical model to predict the heat release rate of
pieces of furniture from cone calorimeter data is
presented. The model is based on a convolution product of
time derivative of effective burning area with the
corresponding cone calorimeter heat release rate.
The an apriori unknown effective burning area is solved
by regularised inverse scheme by using large scale test
results of pieces of furniture and their standard cone
calorimeter data. The model estimates reasonably well the
furniture calorimeter heat release rate (**) of
upholstered armchairs using the cone calorimeter heat
release rate ** and soft mass of the chair.
