Abstract

The SÄK-l project "Probabilistic Risk Assessment and Licensing" has been initiated by the Nordic Liaison Committee for Atomic Energy (NKA). The project will be carried out by the following research institutes: - Denmark, Riso National Laboratory - Finland, Technical Research Centre of Finland - Norway, Institute for Energy Technology - Sweden, Studsvik Energy Technology in co-operation with authorities, utilities and ASEA-ATOM. The project will be carried out in the years 1981-84. The total manpower plan is about 25 man-years. The project is sponsored by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The project is aimed at resulting in good readiness for reliability analysis of nuclear power plant safety systems, and a presentation of the conditions for and limitations of the application of probabilistic metbods in licensing activities. The project plan is described in more detail in Appendix 1. The seminar held on 8-9 April, 1981 in Helsinki was the initiating point for the project. It was aimed at presentation of the research work done by the participants related to the project, and at discussing of the project plan.
