Abstract

In the 3rd Workshop of the European SB_Steel project, several case-studies were presented that were conducted in order to support development of sustainability assessment methodology in early design stages of a steel-intensive building project. The approach was based on concepts of macro-components and key indicators. The case studies concentrated on environmental impacts of macro-components and they considered different climatic zones of Europe and different building typologies. Environmental analysis was performed taking into account building life cycle stages according to the EN 15804. Both the embodied and operational energy were taken into account in assessment of environmental impacts due to energy consumption. The operational energy was calculated by the aid of dynamic software but taking into account the national regulation for example concerning assumptions about occupancy and warm water consumption.
