Abstract

This project deals with greenhouse gas emissions from wood fuel production chains and the role of wood fuels in the control of greenhouse gas emissions in Fin-and. In the first part of the study (1999-2000) the direct and indirect green-house gas emissions from five different fuel production chains of wood chips were considered: terrain chipping, roadside chipping, terminal chipping, chipping of loose residues at the end use facility and chipping of baled residues at the end use facility. Some calculations for carbon balances in the forest soil were also made. In this second study the calculation models will be completed and geographical as well as economical aspects will be considered. Calculations concerning the use of forest residue can have on a national level in Finland when reducing greenhouse gas emissions will also be made.
