Abstract

The purpose of developing the production and handling of wood fuel for smallscale use is to improve the production and delivery methods as well as the technology so that the fuel quality is adequate and the costs are competitive. The project includes four sub-projects, which concentrate on more efficient wood fuel drying, fuel handling at the storage site, handling technique for pellets and wood chips, and the impacts of wood pellet raw materials and structure on the mechanical durability and combustion emissions. In the project, experimental studies are carried out in laboratory and field tests, and calculatory models are developed e.g. for wood fuel drying.
