Abstract

The purpose of developing the production and handling of wood fuel for small-scale use was to improve the production and delivery methods as well as the technology so that the fuel quality is adequate and the costs are competitive. The project included four sub-projects, which concentrated on more efficient wood fuel drying, fuel handling at the storage site, handling technique for pellets and wood chips, and the impacts of wood pellet raw materials and structure on the handling durability and combustion emissions. In the project, experimental studies were carried out in laboratory and field tests, and calculatory models were developed for wood fuel drying.
