N2 - The use of wood fuels has increased rapidly during last
years in the municipal heating and power plants and in
the boilers of forest industry. The use of forest chips,
particularly logging residues will increase in the
future. The fluidised-bed boilers enable a far more
versatile fuel variety than before. The main problems in
co-firing of biofuels are the technical limitations in
the fuel receiving and handling of wood fuels at the
plants. Normally the handling and feeding lines are
designed for one fuel type, in the most cases in Finland
for the peat fuels. The flow and the other physical
properties of peat and wood fuels are very different.
The aims of this project is to develop for the power
plants the receiving, handling, storing and feeding
systems, which make possible the increase of use share
and the intensification of delivery for different wood
fuels. Case objects are used the receiving, handling and
feeding systems of two power plants, Toppila Power Plant
in Oulu and Naistenlahti Power Plant in Tampere.
