Abstract

Praseodymium doped crystals and glasses are of interest with respect to their up-conversion ability. In order to establish the efficiencies of up-conversion we have measured and calculated radiative and non-radiative transition probabilities of the luminescent levels (3P1 + 3P0), 1D2 and 1G4 and measured their lifetimes and concentration dependence of the cross-relaxation rates. Critical radii of the cross-relaxation process are calculated to be for the 3Pi manifold and 12.8±0.5Å  for 1D2.
These are compared with similar data in fluoride glass.
