Abstract

The scope of this paper is to develop integrated Receiver (Rx) components for continuous variables quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) technology. Fast balanced Ge PDs are monolithically integrated with 90° optical hybrid on VTT's ultra-low loss 3um thick SOI platform. We developed integrated balanced Ge PDs based on an operational amplifier connected in a transimpedance amplifier (TIA). These balanced Ge detectors exhibit low noise and high saturation power, with an estimated shot noise to electronic noise clearance >15 dB, and a bandwidth of 1 GHz with CMRR greater >30 dB.
