Research output: Book/ReportReport

Abstract

This report is a basic survey of the gaps and needs of enginerelated research in Finland. The work has been done in the frame of the Future Combustion Engine Power Plant programme (FCEP) of the Cluster of Energy and Environment (CLEEN) and was financed by the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), industrial partners, universities and research institutes. The focuses are on energy efficiency, emission reduction, alternative fuels and the application of new concepts and designs. The questions are addressed under 13 topics and a proposal for the updating of strategic research infrastructure is given under each title. Some of the most important research areas where updating is necessary include: understanding and control of combustion, alternative fuels, new aftertreatment systems, intelligent automation and control, itegrity of engine and auxiliary systems.
