    Abstract

The first phase of the project "Development of Tampere-Region Business Ecosystems in Engineering" resulted in the creation of the vision of how the companies and the whole business ecosystem of Tampere-region needs to be developed to ensure the success and the competitiveness of the ecosystem in the future. The aim is to develop the ecosystem companies on the base of their roles and ecosystem strategies in the ecosystem. The salient development themes were defined for the fifteen companies with different ecosystem strategies. Development projects that will take place in years 2004 - 2009 will concentrate on the development themes of supplier network development, development of industrial service business models, development of product design process, and international co-operation. Also new tools and methods for strategy formation and execution will be developed on the course of the forthcoming projects.
