Abstract

This chapter introduces the Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach tailored to support fair and responsible citizen engagement in the GreenSCENT project. RRI responds to the need to increase the dialogue between researchers and other societal stakeholders to support the acceptability, sustainability, and societal desirability of research and innovation activities and outcomes. The goal of GreenSCENT is to support the engagement of EU citizens in the Green Deal policy implementation by enhancing students’ and teachers’ awareness of environmental issues and competences to act. Due to the strong emphasis in citizen science and behavioural change, reflection of responsible research conduct is essential in the implementation of the project. The GreenSCENT RRI Framework aims to strengthen the RRI capacities (anticipation, reflection, inclusion, and responsiveness) of the research team by identifying the specific RRI issues in different phases of citizen engagement journey and providing the research team with reflexive questions to address these issues.
