Abstract

The pressure laboratory of the Centre for Metrology and Accreditation (MIKES) purchased in 2004 a new piston cylinder unit with the nominal effective area of 196 mm2 to be used as a working standard in absolute and gauge pressure ranges from 25 kPa to 1,75 MPa. A series of measurements on the effective area of the new unit was carried on in MIKES, in Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) and in Metrosert, the leading pressure laboratory in Estonia. The results from MIKES, SP and Metrosert were in a good agreement with each other and with the value given by the manufacturer, DH Instruments, Inc., USA. There seems to be no significant difference in effective areas obtained in gauge and absolute modes.
