Abstract

The aim of the recommendations for concreting in cold weather is to summarize the experience in various countries in erecting concrete buildings and structures in winter. The recommendations are intended as a guide and can be used as a basis for national, standards and instructions. The recommendations, collected and analysed by RILEM Technical Committee 39-BH, supersede the earlier RILEM recommendations completed in 1963. The recommendations are divided into two parts. In the common recommendations the basic provisions, planning methods of preparing and handling of mixes are discussed. Special, attention is paid to the heating methods and quality control. In the appendices frost damage to concrete and calculation methods for strength, strains and temperature are presented. Most of the 16 appendices describe the recommended ways of heating and curing concrete in winter conditions with detailed instructions.
