Abstract
In this paper we present a practical case so as to
develop a method to support decision-makers in defining
the investment portfolio for the next year from a long
list of investment proposals, the sum total of which
exceeds the available investment budget. The case study
is done with a Finnish energy company, Jyväskylän
Energia, which owns and runs electrical power, water and
district heating networks in the city of Jyväskylä,
Finland. The main challenge in this case was how to
compare investment proposals from different networks with
each other, as the investment budget is common to all
different networks.
