Abstract

A field study dealing with runnability and printability problems with light weight offset newsprint has been carried out in Finnish newspapers, and the quality has been compared with the average Scandinavian newspaper quality. Light weight newsprint differs from today's standard quality mainly in opacity and stiffness. No noticeable difference appeared in runnability nor in other print quality factors except print-through. According to the study there are no technical restrictions for changing over to light weight newsprint.
