Abstract
Energy is in numerous ways linked to the efforts in reducing poverty, improving human welfare and raising living standards. Modern energy services, in particular by means of electrification, can have tremendous impact on education, health, and gender equality. Decentralized power projects can provide electricity service for rural population of developing countries. Due to the varying degree of success of such projects around the world, it is of outmost importance to evaluate means to increase the success rate of these projects. This paper presents findings from two studied rural off-grid electrification projects, one in Lao PDR and one in the Philippines.
