Abstract
Both safety and security need to be considered, when a machine is supervised or controlled via internet. Safety means freedom from unacceptable risk. For security the definitrion can be similar, but usually security is related more to human-oriented risks and safety to technology-oriented risks. In safety-related messages it is important to consider autenticity (message is originated from stated source), integrity (message is complete and not altered), timeliness (message is available at right time according to requirements) and sequence (messages are received at correct sequence).
