    Abstract

Altough drawings are still a very common way to present design, 3D modelling has increased its share in the presentation of design. The companies have found that 3D modelling brings many benefits when compared to mere 2D drawings of a design. 3D modelling has become a strategic necessity to more and more companies. Nearly contemporaneus with 3D modelling has been the increase of industrially directed applications of virtual reality. VTT Automatmion has developed, in co-operation with significant Finnish industrial companies, a method to enchance the effectiveness of safety design by the use of developent group work, connective and congruence 3D modelling, visualising use of virtual reality, and simulation.
