Abstract

This paper describes a Road Weather Warning System in use in Finland which employs variable message signs (VMS). The warning system is first described, followed by a discussion of the hypotheses and indicators, the experimental design, data collection, results of a roadside survey, effect of speed and headway, and possible future actions.
