Abstract

The building chosen for this working example is the benchmark building described in. It consists of reinforced concrete frames in a symmetric order. Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3 show the architecture of the building. The characteristic concrete compressive strength is fck = 20 N/mm² and the Young’s modulus E = 29000 N/mm². Therefore, the concrete is seen as equivalent to concrete C20/25 as described in Eurocode 2. The other material characteristics of the concrete and the reinforcement steel are listed in Table 1. The building is located in Seismic Zone 2 in Italy on soil type B from Eurocode 8.
