N2 - Aldaric acids were produced by selective aerobic oxidation of uronic acids using gold nanoparticle catalysts. Nearly quantitative conversions and selectivities were achieved in alkaline aqueous medium in mild conditions. Aldaric acids represent interesting building block chemicals for polymer, food and pharmaceutical industries and with the new oxidation method they can be produced from uronic acids found in hemicelluloses.
