    Abstract

This paper discusses the structure and properties of a compression seal, Thermiculite 866, that is providing excellent service with SOFC development groups around the world. That performance is ilustrated by data showing the robustness and durability of the seal achieved during extended testing by a customer in his stack. The paper then goes on to introduce a new material , Thermiculite 866 LS , that has been developed to allow stack sealing at very low gaskets stresses. The performance of the new material at 700 'C in simulated stack service is illustrated.
