Abstract

The primary aim of the research has been to build up a picture of the role played by the transportation costs in Finland's exports from the viewpoint of our international competitiveness. Information from import freight statistics has been analyzed. As there are no statistics available for the transportation costs for exported goods, data on export transportation was gathered by case study. The calculations show how the transportation costs are distributed among the various links of the transportation chain and compare the transportation costs with the actual value of goods. Some consideration is given the im portance of export transportation costs for the price competitiveness.
