Abstract

The Technical Research Centre of Finland and Bioneer Oy have developed the Bioneer updraft fixed-bed gasifier for peat and biomass. The use of low-Btu gas has reached a commercial level, and there are ten operative gasifiers in Finland and Sweden. The thermal output of these unitsranges 2–6 MW. Recent development work has focused on gasifying low-grade fuels, such as different wood wastes and straw, and on purification of tars from the gas.
