Abstract
This collaborative project between VTT, Demos Helsinki and the City of Jämsä analysed the local industrial ecosystems in order to identify actions to increase the impact of research, development and innovation (RDI) and promote the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly business and innovation in the Jämsä region. Through the utilisation of foresight and ecosystem management, the research team sought to support industrial renewal and green transition, with a particular focus on sustainable growth in the circular economy and new aviation sectors.
The work will resulted in a practical roadmap identifying opportunities for a sustainable transition and containing concrete proposals and measures on how to promote industrial development in Jämsä to the next level.
Although the work focuses on two very different sectors of the future – circular economy and new aviation technologies – the roadmap drew these two sectors together, through a future exploration undertaken with the help of Future Radar tool. The project also engaged in an ecosystem mapping, gap analysis and workshops, on the basis of which new future opportunities were identified and a more active collective ecosystem management and leadership framework was provided.
