V2X Communication Enabling New Service Concepts

Abstract

Connected vehicles and automated driving is currently an emerging area for product development. Connected vehicles are expected to increase traffic safety and efficiency. Standardization activities are focusing on safety related applications but the deployment of V2X communication will also open up new opportunities for various applications which can improve daily lives. This paper discusses information sharing between vehicles, infrastructure and cloud services and presents two novel V2X application concepts which can help to ease congested city traffic and support safer and more convenient trips. The paper also describes the needs for enhanced V2X messaging to enable these concepts.
