Abstract

5G has the potential to enable fundamentally new applications, industries, business models and to dramatically improve the quality of life around the world through unprecedented use cases. Transport is an important industry sector in Europe, in terms of jobs, market size and international trade. Moreover, it is vital from a societal perspective, e.g. for safer and more resilient services for people and goods. This paper targets 5G applications in this vertical industry, especially for improving utility, efficient processes, and safety. It defines vertical use cases by using the 5G wireless mobile telecommunications technology. In addition, it investigates the technological and business validation of these trials of the transport industry and addresses business opportunities for future 5G applications.
