Abstract

This report "Verification of the thermal design of electronic equipment" is intended as a helping tool in the design of electronics and its quality control. It describes how the thermal design of electronic equipment is closely linked to other areas of design work, and how the quality of the goals set for it and their fulfilment are verified. The verification method covers all packaging levels of electronic equipment from the system level down to the electronic component level. The method described in this report can be used as part of the quality control system of a corporation. Information is included on the measurement and test methods needed in the verification process. Several measurement methods for the temperature, flow and pressure of air are described. This project is part of the "Cool Electronics" research programme funded by TEKES, the Finnish Technology Development Centre. It was carried out by VTT Automation in cooperation with Lappeenranta University of Technology, Nokia Research Center and ABB Industry Oy VSD-Technology. The report is available both in English (VTT Publications 320) and in Finnish (VTT Julkaisuja 824).
