The paper deals with networking in manufacturing and is based on IMS project Gnosis-VF (ESPRIT 28448). In the paper we present a business process model of a virtual enterprise consisting of a network of SMEs and a co-operation model derived from and justified by the business process model. For this purpose, the paper presents an example of an industrial case network that applies the principles of the model. The new information technology needed for the implementation of the presented co-operation model contains XVIL, translations and semantic message standards.
