Abstract
In Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and mobility services, the potential of user generated content is still largely untapped. In this paper, we introduce VoiceInfo, a concept and working prototype of a smartphone application allowing location-based audio messaging for traffic information sharing between drivers and from 3rd party content providers. Furthermore, VoiceInfo enables crowdsourcing of floating vehicle data (FVD) from users’ smartphones. To ensure that the application does not distract drivers’ attention from driving, user interaction is simplified to a minimum and audio is used as a main communication mode. VoiceInfo can either be realized as a service on its own or as an embedded functionality in another service.
