Abstract
Mold growth is one of the first signs of too high
moisture conditions in building structures. A numerical
method has been developed at VTT to simulate numerically
mold growth on wooden structures and to evaluate the
growth using mold index levels that can have values
between 0 and 6. It has been further developed to take
into account less sensitive building materials. This
simulation model can be used to predict the risk for mold
growth and it can be applied as a post-processing tool
for moisture simulation models. Now the mold index is
considered to be applied in ASHRAE Standard 160 as
improved moisture performance criteria. The workshop was
organized to present the contents and use of the model.
